| WALKUP SURPRISE
From its formation in 2004 the St. Arnaud Country Music Club has learnt to "expect the unexpected" with regard to the performers that "walk up" in support of the Club's guest artists at the monthly Local Country held at the Sporting Club. Artists such as Rick Bartlett, Kym Ritchie, Bobby Hunter, Penelope Sommerville, Russell Erwin, Kinta and David Delle Vergen have secured guest artist "spots" after winning audience approval from their "walk-up" appearances.
The expectations for the show on the second Sunday in March were fulfilled when apart from local "walk-ups" Leon Argent,Leeanne Griffith and Logan's
Big Bad John as well as regulars who travel from Ballarat, Boort and Maryborough the Club welcomed Roseanne Stone from Geelong and Lola Benjamin from Tasmania.
A strong rumour doing the rounds over the weekend came to fruition on the night with an appearance by 11 times Golden Guitar winner Adam Brand and a finalist in the 2007 "Starmaker" Queenslander Rob Black.Rob performed two of his "Hits" including his current single Turn Up Your Radio which debuted at No.15 on the CMC Top 30.
Adam was very impressed by the facilities at the Sporting Club and was quite taken by the potential offered by Lord Nelson Park as a venue for an outdoor concert.
He thrilled the audience by performing three of his songs including "Good Friends" and expressed interest in performing in St.Arnaud in the near future.
Adam Brand and Rob Black had performed on the Saturday night in Horsham and were at the Capitol theatre in Bendigo on the Monday. They were chauffeured to St.Arnaud by former local Duane Mcdonald who is the promoter of their current tour.
A great night was capped off by a superb performance by the guest artist South Australian, Danny Hooper. He was described by some members of the audience as "The Best Yet" and a former award winning songwriter commenting on Danny's own compositions said "He writes better than most people sing".
